Unfortunately, the Lady Bulldogs' did not earn their head coach a trip to district play.

The seventh-seeded Stow-Munroe Falls softball team's season came to an end after losing to second-seeded Wadsworth 5-2 in a Barberton Division I sectional title game May 10 on the road.

Hawkins, a Cuyahoga Falls native who is battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, may have coached his last game against the Lady Grizzlies. The team honored Hawkins with "Doug Hawkins Sports Complex" listed on the top part of the scoreboard.

Despite all of this, Hawkins was business as usual after his team defeated the Lady Black Tigers.

Against Falls (5-15), the game was called after 4-1/2 innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Stow batted around in both the first and second innings, respectively.

The Lady Bulldogs scored six runs in the first, seven in the second and one in the third. The Lady Black Tigers scored their only run in the third.

"They hit the ball," Falls head coach Kim Applegarth said. "There is not much you can do when they hit like that. I made a pitching change, but it didn't matter."

Lady Bulldogs' right-hander Macie Bell pitched the first four innings to get the win. Right-hander Katie Kelly pitch a scoreless fifth to end the game.

Lady Black Tigers' starting right-hander Cynthia Stanfield lasted just a third of an inning. She was relieved by left-hander Tori Rogers in the first.

Catcher Kenedi Cesnak also had three hits, including a double, two RBIs and a run scored for Stow.

Shortstop Brianna Andexler had two hits and an RBI to lead the Lady Black Tigers. Right fielder Annah Bobbitt had the other hit for Falls.

Although her team's postseason was short-lived, Applegarth wanted her team to finish the regular on a positive note.

"We have three games left and we want to end the season with three wins," Applegarth said.

So far, so good.

The Lady Black Tigers earned a convincing 11-1 victory over Kent Roosevelt May 10 on the road.
