Columbus -- Results from the Division II state wrestling tournament might indicate the best season in the history of Woodridge wrestling ended with a whimper. Woodridge coach Mike Massey will have none of that. He knows the ups and downs of the state tournament are too hard to predict.

COLUMBUS -- Cuyahoga Falls-based schools enjoyed a solid first day at the 80th OHSAA state wrestling tournament March 9 at Value City Arena in Columbus. All eight local wrestlers advanced to day two March 10, with six of them advancing to the quarterfinals.

CVCA grapplers pin down second place at sectional

Last year, Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy coach Dave Bergen took a "quality over quantity" approach to the postseason. He didn't have much choice with a small team. If the start of this year's postseason is any indication, CVCA should have both quality and quantity moving forward.

Heading into the district tournament, Cuyahoga Falls bowling coach Tim Wiant wasn't certain what to expect from his boys squad. "They had the mental capability of getting out. I knew they could do it," Wiant said. "In my heart, though, I was thinking they were going to take 12th or 13th.

The Walsh Jesuit High School boys basketball team has won its fair share of "grind it out" games this season, and the Warriors nearly pulled out another one March 1. The Warriors battled Highland in the opening round of the sectional/district tournament in Medina.
